A SLICE OF FRESH BREAD

This is the next to last Fresh Bread, so reflect with me on ending well.

Peter gives us excellent advice when it comes to finishing strong. He wrote, “The end of all things is near

  •       Therefore,
o  be clear minded
o  self-controlled
o  pray
o  love each other
o  offer hospitality
o  If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God.
o  If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides

  •       So that
o  in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.” (I Peter 4:7-11)

“Therefore” and “so that” are hinge words. “Therefore” looks back providing the motivation to do what lies ahead. “So that” looks forward to the result that should be produced.

Time is running out. Therefore, we need to think clearly, act wisely, pray, love, support, speak truthfully and serve each other. Not for our benefit but rather, so that God may be praised and receive glory.

We should all live with the realization that the end of all things is near – with a commitment to bring praise and glory to God by the way we live, whatever number of days God provides.

PRAYER REQUESTS and PRAISE REPORTS

PRAYER REQUESTS

CCI-Latin America’s next Institute for the Formation of Instructors (IFI)will be held in Panamá August 26-September 9. The graduates of this Institute will be certified to teach the 10-week course: Creating Bible Encounters in Community, which in turn trains program directors to prepare their own camp Bible studies. We pray for at least 20 instructors attend, representing 8 countries of Latin America. Each instructor must cover their own expenses for the two weeks of training plus cover their flight cost to participate in the Institute as well as get permission to be absent from their jobs for two weeks. Those from Argentina have just suffered a major devaluation of their currency.  Pray for Bob Sabean, Robert Bruneau, Lisa Anderson-Umana to be able to count on a full team of professors to serve as faculty for these two weeks.

Please pray for the leadership transition in CCI-WW, as Dan Bolin retires at the end of July. Pray for Dan to finish well and for Mark Heasman as he begins a strong new chapter in the life of this ministry. Pray that CCI will continue successfully in its mission to serve and support those who are growing God's kingdom through Christian camping around the world.

Please pray for CCI-UK as they seek to recruit a new office manager to act as Keith Hagon’s number two this summer. Please also pray for the smooth running of the office as CCI-UK support members during this busy time. All of this is precipitated by Keith needing to take two months off to recover from an operation – please pray for his good health and complete recovery along with the ministry needs that arise while he is out.

Please pray for the National Staff at Christian Venues Association as well as all those who have generously volunteered their time for the National Conference, Connect18 in August. Conference begins in four weeks and with much to do, please pray for God to be before each decision made and each task that needs to be completed. Pray that God will pour our His wisdom throughout the preparations as well as during Conference, all glory and praise to God.

Please pray for the disaster of west Japan area. Some area received more than 500mm (more than 1.5 feet) of rain in 48 hours. The rains have caused much damage across the country, including landslides and flooding. At last report, nearly 90 people have perished in the flooding and more than 70 people are still missing. Many people have lost electricity as well. Temperatures ext week will be over 33C(90F) with heavy humidity. Pray for quick recovery and God`s mercy over the disaster area.

Pray for the team of Ugandan camp leaders who met with other CCI-EA(African Christian Camping) leaders at Wendo Retreat and Arboratum in Nakuru, Kenya, to consider how to grow the network in their country. Please pray for wisdom on how best to organize themselves, and how to engage a wider representation of camp leaders, inviting those not already involved in ACC.

Sierra Leonean camp leaders met on Sunday to reorganize their Steering Committee. Pray for wisdom and vision for the new team as they lead their network towards becoming a more intentional organization that reflects the needs of Christian camping in their country.

Pray for Samuel Alabi and Elisha Akwai, Nigerian ministry leaders who are organizing the very first CCI events in their country over the next two weeks. Pray for good responses as they reach out and invite those who may be interested in engaging with CCI into the future.

School holiday has begun for CC-New Zealand and the winter months are challenging for kids, leaders and camp staff. A mini tornado blew through one camp this week and caused some damage, mainly a big clean up. CCNZ regional events will take place in Queenstown in August, and Mark Heasman will join the gathering. Pray for more board engagement of attendees.

Pray with Canadian camps during this summer camp season. Pray for safety, campers to have open hearts and staff to demonstrate the love of Christ.
